Features and Benefits of 3U VPX

VPX, which was formerly known as VITA B46 is an ANSI standard that provides VME – bus based systems with support for switched fabrics over a new high speed connector. VPX supports the existing PCI Mezzanine card and XMC mezzanines by retaining VME’s 6U and 3U form factors. As new technologies offer significantly greater capability, they are replacing the traditional parallel communications bus architectures for local communications. Technologies called for in VPS include 3U and 6U formats. One of the attractive features of the 3U VPX is that the form factor is compatible with existing PMC mezzanine modules as well as the newer XMC mezzanine module. Being in the shadow of its larger 6U sibling, As 3U VPX has not been able to get the attention it deserves.3U VPX is much more than just a half size version of 6U VPX. Though 34U VPX has a much more limited number of potential I/O channels than the larger 6U version, it has more than enough connectivity for most applications.
